Welbourne & Co was founded in 2010 by Richard Welbourne with a simple idea: accountancy should be efficient, affordable, and genuinely helpful for business owners.
After years working in larger regional firms, Richard saw first-hand how traditional accountancy practices often came with hefty overheads and outdated systems. Determined to do things differently, he set up Welbourne & Co with a streamlined model—using smart technology instead of large offices, and passing those savings on to clients.
From the very beginning, embracing cloud accounting tools was key. With clever use of software, the firm helped clients work faster, smarter, and more confidently—while also building processes that worked for modern life.
As the business grew, so did the team. In 2021, Richard was joined by long-time mentor and colleague Nik Knight, who brought his experience from a top-10 national firm—and shared the same vision for a more relaxed, tech-forward accountancy practice. Nik now heads up operations from his garden office in Norwich (yes, it’s a bit of a theme).
In 2023, Andrew Whitehead came aboard as the third director. Having trained under Nik and built his own career in respected local firms, Andrew saw the value of a culture that prioritised both high standards and work-life balance. He quickly became an integral part of the leadership team.
Today, Welbourne & Co operates from Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, supporting clients across the UK. We’re proud to be a close-knit, cloud-based team that’s approachable, proactive, and committed to giving you the clarity and confidence to grow your business.
